Medical Team
A physician who is specially trained to diagnose and treat cancer (Oncologist), as well as diseases of the blood, bone marrow, and lymph glands (Hematologist). The Medical Oncologist/Hematologist generally functions in a referral capacity, meaning doctors specializing in family medicine or other specialties refer patients for evaluation or treatment. He/She utilizes a team approach and coordinates with other specialists the treatment and care of patients with cancer and blood diseases.
Advanced Practitioners (APs) are specially trained health professionals – both Clinical Registered Nurse Practitioners (CRNPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs). They provide quality medical care and treatment to patients under the guidance of their supervising physicians.
Advanced Practitioners conduct physical exams, order and interpret lab work, diagnostics tests and x-rays. They prescribe medications and provide patient education and counseling.
